Barco displays help radiologists work more efficiently and accurately, both at the Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital and remotely
Taiwan’s 1,300-bed Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital (KSVGH) is a public medical center that provides veterans, their families and the wider public with first-class healthcare services. To help its 29 radiologists diagnose illnesses as efficiently and accurately as possible, the hospital invested in Barco Coronis Fusion 6MP and Nio 2MP diagnostic display systems. Healthcare system integrator TBMS took care of the installation.
Since the go-live, the radiologists at KSVGH have enjoyed the benefi ts of Barco’s high-brightness displays, both in the hospital’s reading room and in their home offices: the images are consistently bright and clear, from every angle, even in a light reading room.
Advanced imaging
In 1994, Taiwan embarked upon an ambitious telemedicine project under the umbrella of the National Information Infrastructure (NII). Since then, KSVGH has been committed to automating its workflow and using advanced image transmission and distance consultancy technology. The hospital’s 29 radiologists can read medical images efficiently wherever they are, thanks to the internal ‘Healthcare Enhancement and Leverage Platform (H.E.L.P)’. Thanks to Barco’s medical display solutions, they can view the images in extremely fine detail, both in their hospital reading rooms (Coronis Fusion 6MP) and at their home offices (Nio Color 2MP).
Clear images from every angle
“A high-level diagnostic display is key, as it shows the image in pixel-perfect quality, even without scaling up or down,” says Dr. Tsung-Lung Yang, Chief of Teleradiology and
Emergency Radiology. “When we were discussing medical images in the past, my colleagues had to stand right behind me to see the medical images.
With the Barco Coronis Fusion, they can see the image clearly from any angle.” Dr. Tsung-Lung Yang further praises the image consistency delivered thanks to the MediCal QAWeb technology, and explains that he – and his patients – appreciate the combination of grayscale and color imaging.
Bright and contrast
Barco’s Coronis Fusion 6MP display allows the radiologists at the Veterans Hospital to read CT, MR, cath and echocardiogram images or any combination thereof, side by side on a single diagnostic screen. In this way, it helps the team work more efficiently. Dr. Ming-Ting Wu, leading cardiac radiologist in Taiwan: “No matter which
image I read, in color or in grayscale, it is always very clear and bright, even with ambient light. It’s great that I can keep my curtains open in the reading room!”
Confident diagnoses in home office
Barco’s Coronis Fusion 6MP DL display system is driven by a high-speed MXRT display controller. It takes barely four minutes to transfer 1,000 MRI images to the radiologists’ private workstations at their home offices. Here, too, the radiologists can work in a professional environment: a color Nio 2MP with LED backlights delivers perfect brightness and more shades of gray to display the subtlest of details – guaranteeing confident diagnoses and an efficient workflow.
