Setting The Stage
In 2012, McCann was commissioned to create a unique environment for a broadcaster in Boston, dovetailing the experience of a single person in a studio with remote participants using various devices. Two years later, using an expansive list of hardware and software vendors and innovative integration, the first functioning version of Proscenium was live – and was a hit.
During the next three years, a more cohesive platform experience and next-generation technology provided two additional, award-winning installations: The HBX Live Virtual Classroom and The Coca-Cola U Digital Classroom. Key advancements included dedicated perspective video and audio feeds for every participant and directional outputs for the leader, securing robust partners capable of large-scale deployments, and incorporating polling, hand-raising, and session analytics into the user interface.
Nailing the Punchline
While perfecting the studio environment in a live HBX test, the Dean of Harvard University was moving around the room and engaging with the participants and told a joke. The students responded in-kind with laughter, and Dean Nohria took a step back. He peered across the room at Professor Youngme Moon, who helped develop this new live meeting platform, and simply said, “We’ve done it”. The energy in the virtual classroom felt just like an in-lecture experience.
Today, a completely cloud-based and integrated audiovisual marvel exists with proven and accessible distant learning software in the Proscenium live conference platform. McCann Systems has spent almost a decade pushing the limits of the fourth wall, perfecting the in-studio and remote user experience, and is proud to offer Proscenium as the newest communication platform.
