Motorists driving the busy E17 motorway between Kortrijk and Ghent (Belgium) these days, may be distracted when they pass by the city of Waregem. The eye-catcher? The city’s water tower. Restored and painted deep black, it features a 36m² Barco LED video display, topped by a crown of 822 Barco LED strips. Owner Ghistelinck Group, a renowned Mercedes-Benz franchise holder, is delighted about its ‘StarSquare’.
Global market leader
Located next to Ghistelinck’s flagship showroom, Waregem’s iconic water
tower has been owned by the Mercedes-Benz franchise holder since 1991.
When the tower needed refurbishing, the group decided to install a huge
digital display, to use for branding and marketing purposes. “And who
else could better provide an innovative LED solution than Barco, a
global market leader that can boast exceptional LED display
installations around the world and is located right in our backgarden,”
says Vincent Yserbyt, managing director of Ghistelinck Group.
Passion for technology and innovation
More than a ‘conventional’ LED display solution, our R&A experts
suggested combining the 36m² rectangular wall (45 V16 LED tiles) with a
360° LED crown on top of the tower (822 FLX-L LED stripes). The
feedback, during the inauguration, was raving. “‘StarSquare’, as the
video-powered water tower is called, is a real first for the region,”
says Paul Matthijs, lead of Barco’s Retail & Advertising market
division. “We are excited about this partnership with the Ghistelinck
group as it allows us to – almost literally – expose our joint passion
for technology and innovation.”
