Titled “Untitled (Human Mask)” the 19-minute film is one of Huyghe’s most famous works to date. The story is inspired by a real situation in Japan in which a monkey, wearing the mask of a young woman, is trained to work as a waitress in an abandoned Japanese city devastated by recent disasters. The action takes place inside a desolate restaurant/bar that’s inhabited by the masked monkey, which acts out the human condition in a forsaken world, and endlessly repeating the “young woman’s” unconscious role.
Displayed on a huge screen illuminated by the 10,000-lumen Christie HD10K-M 3DLP® projector, the screenings of Huyghe’s visual masterpiece are part of the SeMA Biennale Mediacity Seoul 2016 exhibition, sponsored by Christie Korea.
