Bogotá, October 3, 2016. - The Colombian company Vinilo Lab chose the Christie® Pandoras Box media server to produce a sensational interactive experience at the promotional event in Bogotá (capital of Colombia) for the new Adidas football boots.
Given the name Adidas Laser Challenge, the action consisted in a laser-beam obstacle tunnel, which competitors had to cross through in a certain time without breaking the beams. It was staged at the Santafé mall, one of the country’s biggest shopping centres, located to the north of Bogotá.
The inspiration for the event was borrowed from Entrapment, the movie with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones which features a scene in which the Welsh actress has to go through a similar experience in a maze of lasers.
Commissioned by Adidas for the event, the agency Young & Rubicam Colombia immediately thought of Vinilo Lab, specialists in conceptualizing emerging technologies and the development of digital contents, who have plenty of experience in designing innovative actions for brands like Mazda, HP, Huawei and Renault, among others.
Eduardo Ortega, CEO of Vinilo Lab, explained how the project came about: “Adidas was looking for an interactive action to promote Ace and Chaos, its two new lines of football boots. It wanted something that would combine technology and skill, and the agency showed us a scene from the movie Entrapment as an example of the kind of thing they were looking for. We had already worked with laser beams, so we set up a demo which they really liked and they immediately commissioned us to go ahead and develop the idea.”
Vinilo Lab started working on the concept and development of the technological part of the interactive experience, using various elements such as Christie Pandoras Box, green diodes, a DMX interface, six mobile LED heads, robotic lighting synchronized with the lasers and the music, a Haser smoke machine, 5.1 sound and three monitors.
Christie Pandoras Box was the primary tool used to manage and monitor all these systems and to synchronize all the action. Specifically, it used a combination of the Pandoras Box Quad PRO, a Pandoras Box Manager STD and a Widget Designer PRO. This last-named application builder controlled the times of the competitors, tracking the top ten times, the sensors to activate and deactivate the diodes, the various levels of difficulty, the database synchronizing the times of the competitors, and the music.
“Pandoras Box provided answers to everything the client had asked us for in this project and Widget Designer had a specific solution for each remit in the client’s brief,” Eduardo Ortega recalled, adding that “it’s a product without technical limitations for the multimedia design of live productions, offering all the creativity, flexibility and compatibility demanded by multimedia shows.”
The Christie Pandoras Box system is a cost-effective turnkey solution that more perfectly unites state-of-the-art rendering technology with intuitive media and show control. Found in some of the most spectacular multi-media presentations around the world, it is the perfect choice for any live event, projection mapping or multi-media show. Flexible and user-friendly, it can be set up as a standalone playback device, network playback client or in console mode for direct DMX Control.
