Preview of leading-edge Technologies for Entertainment - See Christie at Booth #201
Cine Asia/HONG KONG – (Nov, 2011) – Christie®, a global visual technology company, will be demonstrating a complete range of innovative entertainment solutions at Cine Asia in Hong Kong, Dec 6-8, making this event, one of Christie’s paramount trade and technology exchange platforms for its entertainment solutions unit.
“One of our main objectives at Cine Asia this year is to further promote Christie as the only single source manufacturer offering one-stop, integrated digital cinema solutions,” said Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific.
High Frame Rate Demo with Jon Landau
Christie is organizing an interactive demonstration with Jon Landau, Academy Award® and two-time Golden Globe® winning producer of the Titanic and Avatar on Wednesday, Dec 7. The hour-long dialogue will include the main principles of this new high frame rate (HFR) technique and why there is a need to move from 24 frames per second (FPS) to 48, or even 60 FPS in the digital era. HFR technology renders fast-moving objects in exceptional detail, boosting the clarity and smoothness of the image.
One of the major trends to look out for will be high frame rates for 3D. “High frame Rate projection will probably be one of the most important trends that the cinema industry will witness in the next few years as it will allow film-makers the latitude to vastly improve the quality of their images in 3D,” commented Don Shaw, director, Product Management, Christie Entertainment Solutions.
Running 3D content from James Cameron’s and Landau’s Lightstorm Entertainment, the presentation aims to motivate companies and professionals throughout the entertainment industry to push technologies to new levels that will allow new stories to be told and presented in more visually engaging and immersive ways.
Hollywood film-makers endorsing HFR include Jon Landau, James Cameron, and Peter Jackson, who have indicated that their new movies, including Cameron’s Avatar2 & 3, and Jackson’s The Hobbit, will be filmed in HFR format. Christie has also recently announced a historic, five-year agreement with Lightstorm Entertainment, Inc., to drive research, testing, and development of HFR technology.
