Crestron in the News 2022

Dec. 29, 2022 - Industry leaders such as Crestron tend to drive a lot of news coverage, most notably in trade publications — but in general-interest media, too. 2022 was no exception. In addition to articles about Crestron, the company's staff is being tapped for both quotes and bylines for a broad range of periodicals. Here's a sample.

Intelligent Video with the Acquisition of 1 Beyond Makes News

Crestron's acquisition of 1 Beyond technology generated a ton of coverage in the spring of 2022. The acquisition, which included intelligent video solutions and their accompanying product lines, also brought new brainpower into the company fold. The most high-profile: Rony Sebok, 1 Beyond founder and former CTO. We profiled Sebok on the Crestron blog at the time:

Sebok is now an integral part of Crestron's product management team as director of intelligent video, and she will be intimately involved in Crestron's future development of intelligent video solutions. Developing the Next Cool Thing is something that really brings her satisfaction, especially when the magic is shared. "We think we have something really cool, but it's when you give it to a customer and they're like, 'This is incredible!'

The ink surrounding the technology itself was abundant – and overwhelmingly positive. A great example was Ted Green's writeup for Strata-Gee, in which he carefully laid out how the 1 Beyond technology fits together to automate the kind of camera-switching in a hybrid meeting that one would expect from a fully-staffed broadcast crew.

Crestron Home Gets Great Reviews

Green also had glowing things to say about the Crestron Home® platform after seeing it in action at CEDIA® Expo. Jeremy Glowacki of Residential Tech Today had traveled to Chicago for an early look at some of the platform's updated devices earlier in the year at a Crestron Next Road Trip tour stop. He was just as enamored as Green. One example:

[S]peaking of the Horizon Thermostat … it was the low-key most impressive piece of hardware that I saw in my tour. Sadly, most "stats" tend to be the least attractive interfaces in the home automation mix. In contrast, Crestron's Horizon Thermostat, which debuted back in April, features a very sleek high-resolution 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen display and an auto-adjustable backlight that toggles between day and night mode depending on time of day or user preferences.

Crestron Experts Contribute Their Knowledge

As of this writing, Crestron's subject matter experts have contributed their quotes or bylines to 68 articles, blog posts, or editorials in 2022 — with more drafted and set for 2023. (That number doesn't include podcast or broadcast media appearances.) Suffice it to say: The industry hears a lot from Crestron.

While space precludes us from listing them all, here's a small sample to give you an idea of the scope of these contributions:

Crestron President and CEO Dan Feldstein has been contributing to Forbes as a member of their technology council. His thought leadership pieces include Digital Solutions For The Hybrid Workplace, Three Key Elements For Creating The Right In-Office Collaborative Experience, and Scaling Up Your Hybrid Collaboration Systems? The Right Control Is Key. (Odds are good you'll notice a theme throughout these articles.)

Executive VP of Global Marketing Brad Hintze is a regular on video pieces on the trade-show circuit. For example, AV Nation's Rich Fregosa tapped Hintze for an explainer on intelligent video and Crestron's Sightline demo at the 2022 InfoComm® tradeshow.

Phil Pini, director of residential sales (UK), has become something of a regular for the UK publication Essential Install — notably, the print edition. You can find his article Security of Devices, Device of Security: A Recent History on page 36 of this issue. Director of Product Management (AV Solutions) Ekin Binal has also become a contributor to this periodical — here's his piece called In the Zone: Bringing Stellar Audio to the Whole Home on page 42 of the July '22 issue.

Crestron's Director of Product Management (Cloud and Controls), Toine C. Lereentveld, made a splash with this robust guide to APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), The ABCs of APIs in Systems Contractor News.

Crestron's SMEs — namely, the firm's Directors of Product Marketing — have become regulars for AV Magazine, one of EMEA's leading trades. Mike DiBella spoke to Paul Bray for the article Cloud Analytics: Getting Clarity from the Cloud. Meanwhile, Crestron's Lauren Simmen spoke about the rise of AI camera solutions in this piece, Power to the People.

Jason Oster, Crestron's director of product management (residential solutions), lent his expertise on integrating human-centric circadian lighting into home projects in this piece for Residential Tech Today, Crestron Wants Human-Centric Lighting to Become Second Nature. While we're on the subject of home tech, Crestron also appeared in the Seattle Times with this piece aimed at the general public, 7 Misconceptions About Smart Home Technology.

The George Feldstein Technology Center

Finally, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention this: Crestron celebrated a milestone in 2022 — 50 years in business — and marked the occasion by naming a key building on the New Jersey campus after the company's founder. As CE Pro noted in their coverage:

"The George Feldstein Technology Center enables an incubation of ideas and collaboration amongst our engineers that flows directly to the benefit of our customers," said Dan Feldstein, President and CEO of Crestron.

"Within this facility, the character of our company is alive with teams dedicated to adapting to the problems of today and creating new technology solutions that make a difference in the lives of our customers."

The story was picked up by trade pubs and local media alike — something that would've made the late George Feldstein quite proud.
