Helen Meyer, executive vice president of Berkeley, Calif.-based Meyer Sound, has been recognized with the 2011 InfoComm International Women in AV Award. At ceremonies held on September 23 in conjunction with theInfoComm 100 conference in Portland, Ore., Meyer accepted the accolade with the other winner this year, Erin Bolton, partner and strategic development forPivot Communications. Now in its third year, the Women in AV Award acknowledges female AV industry professionals who represent a strong entrepreneurial spirit and excellence in technology management.

"Helen Meyer has transformed the audiovisual industry by being devoted to improving the user experience," says Randal A. Lemke, executive director and CEO, InfoComm International. "She has enhanced the enjoyment of audiences around the world by ensuring that Meyer Sound is developing products devoted to pure sound and intelligibility."

Along with her husband John Meyer, Helen Meyer co-founded Meyer Sound in 1979. In her role as executive vice president of the privately held professional audio manufacturer, Helen is principally responsible for the operations, sales, and marketing, as well as the long-term growth strategies of the company, while CEO John Meyer focuses his efforts on the company's leading-edge research and product development programs. Manufactured at the company's Berkeley headquarters, Meyer Sound products are used by some of the best-known names in music and entertainment including Metallica, Céline Dion, and Cirque du Soleil®.

Helen Meyer is both thrilled and humbled by the acknowledgement. "It's a great honor to be recognized by InfoComm," she says. "When we first started the company 32 years ago, John and I never expected to be where we are today, working alongside so many creative and talented industry professionals, many of whom have become good friends of ours. I am proud to share this acknowledgement with everyone in our extended family, from our employees to our customers around the world, for their ongoing support and inspiration."

Helen Meyer is the recipient of numerous other awards, including a Citation from the Audio Engineering Society and "Woman of Distinction" from the East Bay Business Times. Honors shared with John Meyer include the MIPA Lifetime Achievement Award and the USITT Harold Burris-Meyer Distinguished Career in Sound Award.
