"The Meyer system is really accurate in the vocal range," says George Glossop, Izzard's sound designer of more than 10 years. "Plus, there's a lot of video going on in this show, meaning it's important that we don't take up too much real estate with large amp racks. So self-powered is a bit of a no-brainer."
For the recent tour, Glossop used main left and right hangs of 15 MILO and a MILO 120 line array loudspeaker per side, flanked by two hangs of 14 MICA loudspeakers. A ground-stacked fill system included four MINA line array loudspeakers, four MICA loudspeakers, and eight 700-HP subwoofers.
To add sonic intimacy, the system also featured 12 MICA and 30 M'elodie line array loudspeakers. Ten MJF-212A stage monitors and eight MICA loudspeakers provided monitoring, and the entire system was controlled by a Galileo loudspeaker management system with two Galileo 616 array processors.
"It's a great system," says Yan Stile, hire director of SSE. "There's more PA power on these shows than on most rock 'n' roll tours."
Other core components used on the tour included Midas PRO2 consoles at both FOH and monitoring positions, in addition to Sennheiser microphones.
